(KMDL-FM) I have to admit I don't do well as a Costco shopper or a Sam's Club shopper, for that matter. I get overwhelmed by all the "stuff". And the fact that not only is there a lot of stuff, but the stuff is in large quantities. That doesn't mean I don't have my favorites, and it can be quite perplexing when you can't find one of your favorites, which is a feeling a lot of Costco shoppers in Louisiana could be feeling as we speak.

One of the things that Costco does exceptionally well, at least in my opinion, is offer substantial savings through "store brands". The folks at Aldi have taken that to the next level, but kudos to Costco for their line of Kirkland products.

What Are Kirkland Products at Costco?

Kirkland Signature is the "store brand" of Costco. In industry terms, it's called the "private label" for Costco. Kirkland products run the gamut from laundry and soap to food and fertilizer, and almost everything in between. The products are manufactured at a high level and are offered at a lower price because of a reduction in other overhead costs.

I know at our house we've grown quite fond of several of the Kirkland brand products and prefer them over the more expensive "brand-name" items. One of those items is a regular staple in our house, and it's probably found in your home too. It's peanut butter.

Which Popular Costco Product Has Been Pulled From Store Shelves?

But if you've been looking at Costco for the Kirkland Signature Organic Creamy Peanut Butter, get ready to be disappointed. From all appearances, it looks as if that product has been given the "Houdini treatment" by Costco. Yeah, it looks like they've pulled the product.

What we always do when an item shows up missing at Costco is we go to the online version of the store. If you see the words "Temporarily out of Stock," that's usually a sign the product will be coming back. However, if you search for the Kirkland Signature Organic Creamy Peanut Butter, you'll get a "We were not able to find a match." message.

That, if previous history has taught me anything, means the product is not coming back. The company has solid reasoning behind pulling products. Their philosophy is to only sell a product if they can offer it at a great price, and let's face it, things change.

Also, Costco only commissions a "Kirkland" version of a product if they can produce it at a similar quality and a substantial savings over the national brands. So, maybe the time was just up for the peanut butter in question. It's one of the pitfalls of warehouse club shopping. The other pitfall is hauling all of that stuff you bought out to your car.
