Even if you don't like Mardi Gras celebrations, it was a sad day for the state of Louisiana when we did not get to celebrate our most famous holiday this year. The coronavirus robbed us of one of our most unique experiences, and the economic impact alone will last for years. But we are hopeful for a return to our "normal" carnival festivities in 2022.

One of the most famous Mardi Gras krewes in New Orleans will be celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2022, and they are kicking things off with a specially designed seal to recognize the occasion.  According to NOLA.com the Krewe of Rex has teamed up with Royal Lithographer Matthew Hales and Rex historian and former monarch Dr. Stephen Hales to design the commemorative seal. It was inspired by the very first Rex, who was Lewis Salomon.

Rex official James J. Reiss III spoke to NOLA.com and said "To help signify the importance of this celebration, we are pleased to present a special 150th-anniversary seal. With hopes Mardi Gras 2022 marks New Orleans’ return to parading, the Rex Organization will be a leading part of the effort to encourage residents and visitors alike to enjoy our city’s world-renowned celebration.”

The krewe has partnered up with the Pro Bono Publico Foundation since their inception, and the organization announced this week that they will reach the $10 million mark for charitable donations to benefit New Orleans public schools in 2022. The Rex parade will roll on Mardi Gras day next year, which is March 1.
