Ryan Meche is LUS Fiber's new director.

Meche, LUS Fiber's engineering manager, will take over the company's operations. He succeeds Kayla Brooks, who has served as interim director since October 2019. His appointment comes after what Mayor-President Josh Guillory says was a nationwide search.

According to Lafayette Consolidated Government, Meche is a founding member of the team that initially designed and launched the LUS Fiber system. In his role on that team, Meche helped to set up the technology, infrastructure, and construction of the system. In all, Meche has more than 17 years of engineering experience, including nine years with LUS Fiber.

Meche takes over the director's role today on an interim basis. The Lafayette City Council must vote to approve Meche's appointment on a permanent basis. No word yet on when that vote will take place.
