Lafayette Police Apprehend Suspect After Alleged Armed Robbery at Chase Bank on West Congress St
The Lafayette Police Department responded this morning to a report of an Armed Robbery at the Chase Bank located in the 3900 block of West Congress Street (intersection with Guilbeau Rd). The call came in at approximately 9:18 am on Monday, August 7th.
Prior to this incident, LPD responded to several calls in the area regarding a suspicious male walking into other banks, wearing a mask and gloves.
In this incident, the male suspect entered Chase Bank and presented a note to a bank employee requesting money, with a threat of violence if the request was refused. The employee complied and provided the male suspect with an undetermined amount of currency.
The suspect then fled from the bank.
Upon arrival on the scene, Lafayette Police officers observed a male suspect matching the description of the suspicious person from the previous incidents fleeing the bank on foot.
A brief foot chase ensued, and LPD officers were able to apprehend the suspect and place him under arrest.
The suspect has since been publicly identified as Patrick Callahan, 39, of Lafayette.
Callahan has been arrested and booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center for one count of First-Degree Robbery as well as an outstanding arrest warrant.
