Lake Charles Man Dies In I-10 Crash
It only takes a second. Your eyes or attention are averted from the roadway as you travel at freeway speed. Or even worse, a piece of equipment or a tire fails on your vehicle and you are struggling to maintain control. The next thing you know you are in a very precarious and life-threatening predicament.
Louisiana State Police believe it was a tire failure on Randal Karl Stewart's truck that caused him to lose control Sunday afternoon. The crash occurred shortly after 5:00 p.m. on Interstate 10 about three miles east of Iowa in Jefferson Davis Parish.
Authorities believe that when the tire failed Stewart over-corrected and ran off the roadway. This caused the vehicle to roll over onto its roof. It eventually came to rest on the south service road.
Stewart was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. When authorities arrived on the scene he was removed from the vehicle and taken to Jennings American Legion hospital where he was pronounced dead.
