Late Night Crash Leaves Lafayette Residents Without Power

A crash in the 1600 block of Dulles Drive, just west of Ambassador Caffery Parkway in Lafayette created quite an eerie scene this morning.  Normally as I drive in to work down Ambassador Caffery I see the Burger King and the Winn Dixie at the corner of Dulles and Ambassador all lit up. This morning, there were only the lights of a Lafayette Police Department cruiser blocking traffic from driving down Dulles. The shopping center and the neighborhoods behind it were dark.

The reason for the power outage was a crash that occurred around midnight in the 1600 block of Dulles. This according to a report from KATC TV 3.  A vehicle crashed into a utility pole and the impact brought down several supply lines with it. Utility crews are currently working to clear the roadway of downed lines and the damaged pole.

It is hoped that power will be completely restored within the next several hours. As of 2:45 power had been restored to customers along Ambassador Caffery but there will still be outages being worked along Dulles.
