Lawyer For Man At Center Of OWI Bribery Case Involving Lafayette District Attorney’s Office Requests More Time

The lawyer for the alleged mastermind in the bribery scheme involving the Lafayette District Attorney's Office is asking for more time to prepare for the case.

According to our news partners at KATC, attorney Thomas C. Damico is doing so because he says his client, Robert Williamson, has medical issues that will prevent him from being able to currently stand trial. Damico also mentioned that he has not yet received "thousands of taped conversations and voluminous discovery" from prosecutors.

Allegedly, Williamson garnered favorable treatment for his clients, usually in OWI cases, from District Attorney office staff in exchange for cash and other valuable items. Williamson faces one count of conspiracy, six counts of bribery, one count of Social Security fraud, and one count of making false statements to federal agents. The trial is scheduled to start on December 16.
