LCA + Midland Punch Their Tickets For Return Trips To Top 28 Tournament

One team did it in their first attempt. The other did it for the first time since the 1970s.

Both the 3rd seeded Lafayette Christian Academy Knights and the 4th seeded Midland Rebels are going back to the Top 28 Tournament in Lake Charles after winning in completely different fashions to get past their quarterfinal opponents.

The Knights overran the 6th seeded White Castle Bulldogs like they did last year to get to the Top 28, except this year the Knights did it in the confines of the Plex to head back to the state championship tournament for the second time in its three years of LHSAA play. It didn't take long for the Knights to get things rolling, breaking an early 2-2 tie and going on a 20-2 run to take an 18-point 1st Quarter lead on their way to the 82-45 victory. LCA will be looking to build on their last Top 28 appearance, when it lost to Madison Prep in the semifinals. This year, the Knights will be taking on 2nd seeded Arcadia in the Class 1A semifinals, while 1st seeded Madison Prep will be taking on 4th seeded Metairie Park Country Day in the other semifinal matchup. Gametime for LCA is set for 2:45 PM on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Rebels, who have a very storied and tradition-rich basketball program, is heading back to the Top 28 Tournament to defend its Class B title after outlasting 5th seeded Simsboro 49-43. It was a tight game throughout and looked very much in doubt at one point when two starters fouled out in the 3rd Quarter. But, Midland held off Simsboro to head back to the state championship in back-to-back years for the first time since the 1970s. The Rebels will take on the winner between 1st seeded Florien and 9th seeded Dodson on Wednesday at 4:30 PM. The other semifinal in Class B will feature 2nd seeded Fairview versus 3rd seeded Anacoco on Wednesday at 6:15.
