If you've ever lost your wedding ring you know the feeling of shock, sorrow, sadness, and sickness that comes with that discovery. When we hear stories of lost wedding rings it's usually a story that involves a plumber or the dog ate it. This Halloween horror happened in Slidell it has to do with candy and it does have a happy ending.

An 86-year old Slidell woman was handing out Halloween treats to the children in her neighborhood when she discovered that her wedding ring was no longer on her hand. A police spokesman for the Slidell Police Department said the woman wasn't wearing the ring on her ring finger but rather her pinky. She wore it there because the wedding band no longer fit her traditional ring finger.

As you might imagine the discovery of the missing ring devastated the older lady. Slidell Police were called to see if they could help spread the word or at least be on the lookout for someone trying to sell a wedding ring at a pawn shop or jewelry store. The story of the lost ring was posted on the Slidell PD  Facebook Page and quickly went viral over social media. More than 6-thousand Facebook friends shared the story.

Even though they felt the ring had slipped off the older lady's hand and into a trick-or-treat bag,the woman's family decided to search the area around the woman's home one last time before declaring the ring lost. As they searched the yard near where the lady was handing out treats a family member discovered the lost ring. A police spokesman said the woman and her family were overjoyed with the discovery.

As you might imagine the return of the wedding band was more about sentimental value than monetary value. The ring was a gift from the lady's now deceased husband on their wedding day.  The family reached out via Slidell Police to thank the many people who shared the story and offered to help in finding the ring.
