Louisiana DOTD Sets Lane Closures for I-10 This Weekend

Two weeks ago the back up on the westbound lanes of I-10 approached ten miles in length on a Saturday afternoon. Hopefully, there will not be a repeat of those tremendous delays that were spawned by a roadbed rehabilitation project the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has scheduled beginning Friday night.

There will be lane closures affecting the westbound lanes of travel from Whiskey Bay to mile marker 125. Those lane closures will go into effect at 9 pm Friday night and are expected to remain in place until 6 am Monday morning.

LaDOTD has posted this alternate route for motorists that will be traveling from New Orleans and Baton Rouge toward Lafayette this weekend.

As you can see in the graphic above, motorists will exit I-10 at Lobdell (Exit 151, LA 415). From there traffic will proceed to U.S. 190.  Motorists will follow U.S. 190 to Opelousas where that roadway intersects with I-49. From there, travelers will head south down I-49 to intersect I-10 in Lafayette and resume their travels westbound.

Planners with LaDOTD say the closures are being put in place so crews can repair the roadbed that was damaged in a fiery crash that happened in August of last year. All construction times and plans are subject to change because of inclement weather.
