The new year of 2022 was welcomed in by Louisiana lottery players with yet another big win in the Powerball game. No, it wasn't a ticket that took the game's top prize but the ticket sold in Louisiana still managed to match enough numbers to be worth $50,000 to its lucky owner.

With the current state of the Powerball and the Mega Millions jackpots you can bet only that lottery fever will soon take over the mindset of Louisiana and the nation. The current top prize in the Mega Millions game is estimated to be $244 million for tomorrow night's (January 4th) drawing. Meanwhile, Powerball players will have another chance to claim over half of a billion dollars tonight.

That's right the current Powerball jackpot is estimated to be at $522 million dollars or more by the time the ping pong balls drop for tonight's scheduled drawing. The Powerball game hasn't made a big winner since October of last year but judging how the way ticket sales are heating up, the next winner probably won't be too much longer in coming.

Now, about that $50,000 Powerball winner from New Year's Day. The numbers drawn for that game were:

06   12   39   48   50  Powerball 07 Powerplay x2

The Louisiana Lottery's Big Wins in Louisiana page says the $50,000 winner was purchased in Houma. The ticket was purchased at Gaubert Food Mart on West Park Avenue. The ticket matched four of the five white-ball numbers and the Powerball. By rule, the ticket is valued at $50,000.

Let's hope that $50,000 will go to someone who could use a bit of a boost this year after facing Hurricane Ida last year. As always, if you do choose to play any lottery game we encourage you to play responsibly.
