LAFAYETTE, La. (KMDL-FM) - For the past few years, a handful of Louisiana lawmakers have pushed to eliminate the inspection sticker requirements for vehicles, and each time it falls flat. Now, Governor Jeff Landry says that at the next Louisiana session "we are getting rid of the inspection sticker" according to WAFB.com.
Could this really happen, and what does it look like if it does?
Let's dive in...
Is Louisiana Getting Rid Of Inspection Stickers?
Inspection stickers, or break tags, could become a thing of the past in Louisiana. A Louisiana lawmaker is once again pushing legislation again this session to eliminate the long-standing requirement that drivers display a vehicle inspection sticker.
Rep. Larry Bagley tells WAFB -
I think this is the sixth time or seventh time I’ve tried to bring this. And it’s, and I’ve had trouble from the governor to members of my own party. Everybody wants to get rid of it, but nobody wants to vote for it

Bagley argues the process is an unnecessary hassle and expense for drivers, and that forgetting the sticker can mean tickets or even arrest. He says the bill simply aims to make the inspection sticker optional, so drivers wouldn’t have to wait in line or face penalties if they forget it.

According to Rep. Bagley, the cost of Louisiana inspection stickers raises roughly $10 million annually for Louisiana State Police. At this time, it's not yet known how Louisiana State Police would supplement the loss of annual inspection sticker revenue should the bill pass.
