Louisiana Lottery Reveals Where Powerball Winner Was Sold
(Baton Rouge, LA) These have got to be exciting times at the Louisiana Lottery in Baton Rouge. Not only is "The Lottery" dealing with rampant Powerball fever in the state. They have announced another companion scratch-off, or two, in conjunction with the New Orleans Saints and the beginning of the NFL Season.
However, Powerball is by far the dominant story when discussing lottery games and the Louisiana Lottery specifically. The first Powerball jackpot ever won by a Louisiana-sold ticket happened in 2003 when a $42 million winner was purchased in the state.

The most recent Powerball jackpot win came in Lafayette in March of 2018. That's when a ticket connected to the Moose Family Trust earned a jackpot prize of $55.9 million. And while wins of $42 million and $55.9 million are nice, they pale in comparison to what a single Powerball ticket could win if that ticket matches all of the numbers drawn tonight.

What Time is Tonight's Powerball Drawing, and How Much is the Jackpot?
That's because tonight's Powerball drawing, scheduled for 10 pm on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, will be for an estimated $1.3 billion. Here's a fun fact that is sure to piss most of you off. If someone wins tonight's Powerball, they won't be a billionaire. In fact, the person who won Powerball's largest jackpot of $2.04 billion a few years ago didn't become a billionaire.
I think we all know why. It's taxes, and there are a lot of them associated with a big money lottery win. Based on current figures, the federal government's take on your Powerball winnings is about 24%, roughly one quarter of your prize. Additional taxes from state, local, and other entities round up the entire tax burden to about 37% of your winnings or a little over one-third of your money.
And those tax rates are not pro-rated by how much you win. If you win over a certain amount, you're going to have a tax responsibility. As of this report, four Louisiana Powerball winners have not yet had to face the tax man, because they've not collected their prizes.
Where Was Louisiana's Most Recent Powerball Winning Ticket Sold?
One of those prizes not collected is Louisiana's most recent Powerball win, a $50,000 winner that was sold for Monday's Powerball on September 1st. That ticket was sold in New Orleans at the Saba Food Mart on Allen Toussaint Drive. Another $50,000 winner from the August 30th Powerball game has yet to be collected; that Powerball winner was sold at Best Stop #46 in Ponchatoula, Louisiana.
There was a drawing last night, Tuesday, September 2, 2025, in the Mega Millions multi-state lottery game.
Louisiana had no big winners in that drawing. In fact, the largest prize earned by a Louisiana ticket in last night's Mega Millions was $600. A nice win, but not the kind of win your "lottery dreams" are made of. The Mega Millions jackpot prize will elevate to an estimated $336 million when they draw again on Friday night.
