Lottery players in Louisiana can breathe a sigh of relief. It looks as if "Lady Luck" has ended her hiatus and is now back in the state. The state's lottery players have been going through a bit of a "big win" drought during the month of May. With the exception of a Lotto win, there have been no prizes over $10,000 in Louisiana in the major "draw" games played in the state since late April.

By the way, in that same story, it was reported that a $1,000,000 million dollar Powerball prize won by a state-sold ticket was just days away from being declared null and void. So, if you played Powerball the week of Christmas or purchased Powerball tickets as gifts for the December 20th drawing, you might want to check your coat pocket, that spare party purse, or maybe the pocket of your suit coat to see if you have a "million dollar miracle" waiting for you.

Last night's big win in the state happened as part of the Mega Millions multi-state lottery game. If you did not see last night's drawing, here's how that unfolded.

The Mega Millions website confirms that the numbers drawn in the May 16, 2023, game were:

15   34   36   69   70   Mega Ball 17  Megaplier x3

The site confirmed that no tickets sold for the May 16th drawing matched the numbers needed to claim the game's top prize of $113,000,000. There were also no tickets sold across the game's footprint that "Matched 5" for a one million dollar prize either.

A Louisiana-sold ticket was one of 15 tickets sold across the country that matched four of the five white ball numbers and the Mega Ball. By rule, those ticket holders are entitled to a prize of $10,000. Four of the 15 $10,000 winners opted-in for the Megaplier which means their total prize winnings will be $30,000.

The player who purchased the $10,000 winner in Louisiana did not opt-in for the Megaplier so their prize will remain at $ 10 grand. According to the Louisiana Lottery Corporation, the big money winner from last night was sold in Natchitoches at the Murphy USA location on E. Keyser Avenue in that city.

Tonight's Powerball drawing will feature an estimated top prize of $146 million dollars. That's if the jackpot winner chooses to take the annuity option. The lump sum prize for tonight's Powerball game is an estimated $78.2 million.

As was mentioned earlier in this article Louisiana's lottery luck has been down for the past few weeks so, if you're inclined and can afford to play, you might want to consider a ticket for the Lotto game. That prize is $550,000 and hasn't had a winner since May 6th. The Easy 5 game jackpot is listed at $210,000. That lottery game has not produced a winner since late March.

As always you're encouraged to play any and all lottery games responsibly. Most players do not win and in fact, most don't even cover their investment so play only if you can afford to lose your investment. If you feel you have a gambling problem or know someone who does, help is available. You can be connected to that assistance free of charge by dialing 1-877-770-STOP (7867).
