Food Network Honors Iconic Louisiana Dish with Nostalgic Tribute

(KMDL-FM) Assuming we survive the next few months, we'll be 250 years old come July 4th. The "We" I am referring to is us, as in U.S., we have a big birthday coming up, and the folks at the Food Network are celebrating by offering a collection of 50 nostalgic eats from around the country.

The network sent its reporters and editors out across the nation to find those integral dishes from yesteryear that have stood the test of time. And in many cases, these dishes have helped to define the "food scene" in many communities.

Louisiana Has So Many Great Food Choices - What Did Food Network Choose?

Louisiana's entry into this list of nostalgic treats is certainly a treat. Even though we are known far and wide for our incredible seafood offerings, incredible slow-roasted pork dishes, and "made-from-every-part-of-the-animal" recipes, we sometimes forget that Louisiana cooks are masters of desserts as well.

It would stand to reason we'd know a little bit about sweets, given our close connection to sugar cane, and there is an element of sugar cane that is in this iconic dessert made famous in Louisiana.

What Dishes From Neighboring States Were Honored by Food Network?

According to the Food Network, the neighboring state's nostalgic entries on the list were Possum Pie from Charlotte's Eats and Sweets in Keo; Biscuits from Biscuits and Blues in Natchez, Mississippi; and, in Texas, Beaver Nuggets from Buc-ee's.

I am sure all of those dishes are wonderful, but do they really compare to Bananas Foster as prepared at Brennan's in New Orleans? Not only is Bananas Foster given credit for helping solidify Brennan's spot in culinary history, but the recipe is believed to be the reason for the popularity of bananas in the United States.
