Louisiana Police Asking Help Finding Missing Alligator Last Seen in French Quarter

The New Orleans Police Department has recently released a statement asking the public to help them locate a missing alligator.

At this point, we have more questions than answers, but here's what we do know...

New Orleans, Louisiana Police Looking For Missing Alligator

In a recent post to Facebook, the New Orleans Police Department is assisting the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and asking the public's help finding a missing alligator.

That's right. They don't seem to be looking for the two individuals seen with the alligator, they're trying to find the alligator.

NOPD's statement via Facebook -

"🐊 Help us find this gator! 🐊 This sighting was on May 30, 2024, at the intersection of Esplanade and Dauphine.

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Agents started searching that area after receiving the information and could not locate the subjects.

The persons of interest are pictured. The goal is to recover this alligator, which appears to be three feet long."

Can You Have An Alligator As A Pet In Louisiana?

In short, no.

Louisiana law prohibits any wild or exotic animals to be kept as pets, and alligators fall under this description.

A permit is required to take, possess or sell alligators or eggs. This obviously applies to alligator farmers and hunters.

The question still remains...what's up with these guys walking around the French Quarter with a 3-foot alligator?

We're not sure, but the New Orleans Police Department and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries would like to find out.
