(KMDL-FM) What started as a quirky question on Facebook has turned into a full-fledged romp down memory lane. We recently asked you, "What smell do you associate with your dad?" Now we did ask you to be kind because sometimes the odors associated with the older male in the house are less than flattering.

But based on the almost 100 different comments and suggestions we received from you, we've learned that our sense of smell can be tied directly to the memories that we cherish the most. Based on the comments, I would say that almost all of us have at least one core memory that's based on scent when it comes to the men who raised us.

Sunday is Father's Day, and based on what radio and television commercials are telling us, "Dad needs more stuff to do and more stuff to do it with".  I can tell you as a semi-professional father that assumption isn't true at all. What Smells Remind You of Your Father?

Here are some of our favorites, as far as the "smell that reminds us most of dad" question goes.  China, a listener, not the nation, suggested "fresh turned dirt" was the smell she associated with her father, who was a farmer.

Rhonda's dad was a mechanic, so the smell of oil meant a lot to her. Josie, Dee, and Patricia all recounted that the smell of "Old Spice" was the fragrance that brought the image of their dads to their minds.

Malana said the smell of a freshly lit BBQ Pit was an olfactory reminder of time with her dad, while Aime recounted that the smell of cigars would always bring an image of her father to her mind. Our friends at Landry's Feed told us the smell of donuts was what reminded them of their dad. He worked at Privat's Bakery for years.

What's a Fragrance a "Real Man" Would Wear?

Happy Father's Day to those men who chose to raise and support their families often at great personal sacrifice because that's the difference between a real man who deserves the title of "dad" and a sperm donor.

13 Fragrances Men Would Actually Enjoy Wearing

If ever there was a smell that men longed to smell it would be this. Gym floors or most likely, the stuff they use to polish gym floors emit an air of performance, anticipation, and flammable naphtha. Nothing will bring him back faster to his glory days than smelling like middle school.
