The Louisiana State Police announced the death of Retired K-9 Rico. According to state police, Rico retired after nine years of service and then enjoyed his retirement with his handler’s family.

Rico, a Belgian Malinois, has played an integral part in the seizure of over three-million dollars in U.S. Currency and illegal narcotics, according to state troopers.  Rico was trained to detect marijuana, cocaine, heroin, ecstasy, and methamphetamine.

He began his career with the Louisiana State Police in 2009. His death was announced on Tuesday, January 26th on their Facebook page.

The post says that Rico’s handler would like to wish a special thank you to Haughton Animal Hospital for their continued care over the years.
