Louisiana’s Recreational Red Snapper Season Set
Anglers who enjoy the satisfaction of landing a large red snapper in the state's coastal waters will be pleased to know the season for recreational fishing for that species has been officially announced.
According to Louisiana's Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, the recreational red snapper season will begin on May 24th. The season will run on weekends only until the total catch reaches the state's assigned allotment for recreational fishermen. That allotment has been designated as 816,000 pounds.
The daily bag limit for red snapper during the season is two fish per person. There is also a size limit of 16 inches that will be enforced by state game and fish officials. Our next door neighbor Mississippi, will have the same start date for their red snapper season. However, the season will run seven days a week up until July 8th. The season will then resume on July 29th and run through September 2nd.
