Luke Combs Admits Life on the Road Is ‘Grueling,’ But ‘Worth It’
Thanks to the success of songs like "One Number Away," "Hurricane" and "When It Rains It Pours," Luke Combs has had quite a career thus far, even as a new artist. But it hasn't been as easy as it might look.
“It has been a grueling obstacle course of scheduling and lack of sleep and vocal rest,” Combs tells Taste of Country Nights' Sam Alex. "It’s tough, man, but it’s worth it. It’s really starting to pay off not only for me, but for all of my guys. Those guys are starting to be a little more comfortable on the road, as far as we have more amenities out there for those guys."
In fact, all of this success is reaping many rewards, including a little more space for everyone who tours with Combs — he has not one, but two buses now.
"We will probably be going to have three real soon," the rising star shares. "They will have their own bus and I’ll have my own bus. It just gives everyone a little more space (soon) and to be able to feel a little more at home when you are gone, because we are gone more than we are home. Anything I can do to make the road feel better for those guys and more accommodating is something that’s really nice to see pay off."
But make no mistake, Combs takes nothing for granted.
"Having that privacy and your own shower and your own bathroom and your own bedroom is really nice," he admits. "I think its crazy to talk about having that. Two years ago, I was in a van, so to go from that to this has been insane and something I’m super thankful for because it would be real hard without having some sort of semblance of order and like a home life even when you are gone."
Combs and his buses will criss-cross America this summer, including a stop at Country Jam in Colorado on June 14. He and his crew will make pitstops at a number of major country festivals.
