A traffic crash that claimed the life of a Lafayette mother and one of her three children has resulted in the arrest of a 60-year-old Lafayette resident. The crash was reported on Saturday night shortly after 9 pm near the Parkway Plaza Shopping Center on the Evangelin Thruway.

According to police reports Preston Edwards was allegedly driving under the influence when his vehicle struck 39-year-old Jasmun Ozenne of Lafayette who was waiting to cross the roadway with her three children. One of the three children, a six-year-old boy was also fatally injured in the crash. Ozenne's other two children were taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

Edwards was arrested and has been charged with two counts of vehicular homicide. He has also been charged with one count of OWI. Edwards' bond has been set at $155,000.
