Model Aircraft to Fill Louisiana Skies This Weekend

I have always been fascinated with things that fly. During my formative years, my brothers and I would build model aircraft and then fly them in a circle around us using a tether. The flights usually lasted only long enough for me to get too dizzy to stand and then the carnage would ensue.

That will not be the case this weekend when the  51st Annual Warbirds Over Louisiana model aircraft show takes flight at Hinch Field in Carlyss. This year's show will pay homage to the men and women who have served in our nation's military by featuring several military-themed jets, airplanes, and other aircraft.

The show is being hosted by the  Lake Area Radio Kontrol Society (LARKS) and will feature demonstration flights as well as instruction on how to build and fly better model aircraft.

The show will be held this Friday and Saturday. Admission to the show is free and concessions will be available. Pilots who'd like to participate with their aircraft in the show should be prepared to pay a $30 registration fee.

Organizers of the event say some of the aircraft on display and in the air are valued in the tens of thousands of dollars. So, you can expect to see some amazing aircraft, although much smaller than actual size, take to Louisiana's wild blue yonder this weekend.
