New Lafayette Children’s Park Planned for Parc Sans Souci
If you love taking your kids Downtown in the Summer month to cool off playing in the fountain, you're about to love it even more.
Anita Begnaud, the CEO of the Downtown Development Authority tells KATC that obviously "the fountain is not on year-round" to offer kids the opportunity to play. Now, they're looking to make sure kids have fun no matter what month it is.
Begnaud says the plans are in motion to add play equipment for kids Downtown, including "creating a rubberized surface that will be easily accessible for wheelchairs and people with walkers" according to KATC.
Not only will the new play area be inclusive for adults and children with disabilities, but the new play equipment will be equally as inclusive.
Begnaud tells KATC -
"One of the pieces of equipment that we're looking at, and that we're really excited about, is a carousel that can fit a wheelchair, but it also has bench seating around it. Children can be on the equipment with someone that is in a wheelchair, a parent can sit with their child that is in a wheelchair or even a grandparent."
The Downtown Development Authority and United Way of Acadiana currently have a fundraising project underway to raise the money needed to construct the new Downtown Park. If you'd like to make a donation, head over to solagivingday.org.
