UPDATE: WWL-TV and NOLA.com both confirm that Brandon "Boogie B" Montrell has been identified as the victim in the fatal shooting at Rouses Market in the New Orleans CBD.

Numerous reports and tributes began to circulate on Friday night mourning the loss of Brandon Montrell, known to many as popular New Orleans comedian "Boogie B."

New Orleans Councilmember Oliver Thomas shared an update on his official Facebook page, mourning the loss of the NOLA comedian, but asked if the city has "truly become numb to violence and destruction?" Thomas also sent condolences to Montrell's family and fans by vowing to bring positive change to the city.

Speaking of the city of New Orleans, Boogie B was known for his stand-up comedy but has also gained a lot of popularity as of late with his "hood history" videos on social media.

His videos, posted to TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook were informative but often told some of the lesser-known stories of New Orleans history with an undeniable local flair.

Reactions continued to flood timelines and newsfeeds, with many expressing shock, anger, and ultimately heartbreak on the untimely and senseless passing of a local New Orleans legend.

While Boogie B was known as an entertainer, there were many people who say he was just as much of an educator as he was a funny man, and most of all, he was a great human being to anyone who had the privilege of knowing him personally.

Boogie B's legacy will live on in his collection of videos that tell the story of New Orleans as well as the jokes and words of wisdom that we were lucky enough to have bestowed upon us by the late comedian.

But to have such a bright light taken, in the middle of the holidays no less, has definitely left his city, his fans, and his family and loved ones heartbroken beyond words.

Our deepest condolences go out to Montrell's family and may he rest in peace.
