Rouse Markets Announces Expansion – 10 New Stores to Open Soon
(KMDL-FM) The principles behind the ever-growing Rouses Markets empire have once again announced an expansion of the grocery store's footprint across the Gulf South. Rouse's Markets, a Louisiana tradition since 1960, began as a small family-owned grocery store in Houma, Louisiana. The first Rouse's Market was opened in Thibodaux in 1975. The chain has been growing ever since and recently announced another major expansion.
The current locations map for Rouse's Markets across the Gulf South includes 66 different stores. The company operates markets in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. The store's reputation is one of freshness and locally sourced items for shoppers. This is particularly true when it comes to fresh seafood, produce, and other items that can be locally produced along the Gulf Coast.
How Many Rouse's Markets Are There in Louisiana? The Gulf South?
The current breakdown of Rouse's locations looks like this. Louisiana has 53 locations. There are currently five on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and the company operates eight markets in L.A. (Lower Alabama). Based on reports from Rouses, we can expect those numbers to be expanding over the next several months.
In fact, the Louisiana footprint will grow by nine locations, and South Mississippi will add a sixth location, but this location will not be near the Gulf Coast, okay, relatively near the Gulf Coast. Here is where the new Rouses Markets are planned.

Where Will Rouse's Be Opening New Stores in 2026?
Rouses has announced plans to open new stores in these cities at these locations across Louisiana:
* Central (10974 Joor Road)
* Covington (70431 Highway 21)
* Destrehan (12519 Airline Highway, Suite A)
* Franklinton (731 Washington St.)
* Gramercy (1803 LA Highway 3125)
* Kenner (2104 Williams Blvd.)
* Marrero (4627 Westbank Expressway)
* Mandeville (4100 Highway 59)
* New Orleans East (9701 Chef Menteur Hwy.)
Rouses has plans to open a new store in Mississippi, too. This store will not be located along the Gulf Coast like the other stores are. The new Rouses planned for South Mississippi will open in Hattiesburg on Hardy Street, just a few miles down from the campus of the University of Southern Mississippi.
The Hattiesburg store, as well as many of the Louisiana locations, will be former Winn-Dixie stores or former locations of Harveys Supermarkets. Those store locations were acquired via a deal between Rouses and Southeastern Grocers, the parent company of the Winn-Dixie and Harveys brands.
There has been no definitive timetable offered for when these locations will transition into Rouse's Markets. According to reports, the locations will be shuttered during remodeling and will reopen in fairly short order. Those employees at the former Winn-Dixie and Harveys stores will be offered an opportunity to join the Rouse's workforce when the stores reopen.
