Rouses Opens In New Orleans East
The new Rouses location opened yesterday in New Orleans East in the old Winn-Dixie building on Chef Menteur Highway. Rouses was able to keep all of the former employees of the previous Winn-Dixie including management staff.

Rouses officials said that the new store is not only about economic development but also about addressing food insecurity. Employees at the brand-new Rouses welcomed their first customers Monday morning, offering hot food and produce to a neighborhood that has been known as a food desert for years.

This Rouses New Orleans East location also contains a New Orleans Police Department substation inside of the store, a first for any supermarket in The Crescent City. Mayor Helena Moreno tells WDSU that the residents of this area of New Orleans have been begging for an NOPD substation for quite sometime because this part of the city, the 7th District, is so large.
