New Orleans Grandmother Carjacked in Broad Daylight After Picking Up 5-Year-Old from School
Reports say that a 70-year-old woman was carjacked in the Fontainebleau neighborhood of New Orleans just after getting home from picking up her 5-year-old granddaughter from school. The broad-daylight incident was captured on surveillance footage.
According to reports, this carjacking incident took place on the afternoon of February 16, 2022 in the Fontainebleau neighborhood of New Orleans. The driver of the vehicle was a grandmother who had just picked up her 5-year-old granddaughter from school.
Details of the report say that after pulling up to the house, the grandmother had noticed that there was a gate open on the side of the home. The 70-year-old did not want the dog to escape the yard, so she turned off the car, walked around the vehicle to open up the back passenger door for the child, and went to close the gate.
Footage shows that just as the young child ran out of the vehicle, a red SUV passes by the white car that the grandmother was driving. The red SUV goes out of frame, but actually puts the vehicle into reverse and goes all the way back to the white car.
After seemingly taking a moment to scope out the vehicle, someone jumps out of the back passenger door of the red SUV and creeps into the driver's seat of the white car. The individual turns on the car and both vehicles speed away from the scene.
After walking to the side of the home to close a gate, the grandmother and granddaughter turned around to see the White Lexus SUV being stolen. The mother of the young child has voiced her frustrations with the incident.
The mother of the child reportedly said, "I'm so angry with our city right now. I don't care about the car. That is replaceable. I care that my child witnessed a crime, is anxious to leave the house...".
"I'm angry that my child cannot come home from school during daylight on a Tuesday without witnessing a crime. Something has got to change", the mother said per reports.
