New Orleans’s Dixie Beer to Become Faubourg Brewing Company
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The iconic Louisiana brewery, Dixie Beer, will now be known as Faubourg Brewing Company.
The company announced over the summer that it was getting rid of the Dixie name. Dixie is often used to refer to the southern United States, particularly those slave-owning states that made up the Confederacy. The company's decision to rebrand came at a time of national uproar over racial discrimination. “Faubourg" is a French word often used in New Orleans to mean “neighborhood." Beer under the new name will hit the shelves early next year.
Dixie Brewery originally opened in 1907.
