Opelousas High Evacuated After Unknown Device Set Off In Bathroom
UPDATE: The device that was set off in a boy’s bathroom at Opelousas High today was a firecracker, State Fire Marshal officials say.
Breaking news being reported that Opelousas High has been evacuated after unknown device was set off in the bathroom.
KATC reports the UL "campus bomb K9 has also responded to assist with the search of the school for any sorts of explosive devices."
No injuries are being reported.
KATC reports that "parents arriving to the school will be allowed to remove their children if need be but is not necessary at this moment, police said."
The Opelousas City Police along with the assistance of the Louisiana State Fire Marshal are currently conducting an investigation of the incident and campus.

"At this time Opelousas City Police along with the assistance of the Louisiana State Fire Marshal are conducting an investigation at Opelousas High School. The ULL campus bomb K9 has also responded to assist with the search of the school for any sorts of explosive devices. On this morning the principal reported to the Opelousas City Police Department that some sort of unknown device was set off inside of the restroom in the school. All students and staff members all safe and the school has been evacuated with no injuries to anyone. Mr. Jenkins with the St Landry Parish school board has been notified and is currently en route to the school the make further assessments in regards to school closure, parents arriving to the school will be allowed to remove their children if need be but is not necessary at this moment . Search of the school is being conducted by K9 sufficient officers at this time."
