(KMDL-FM) If you visit Louisiana, you'll find out that the people here love to tell stories. If you're already from Louisiana, then you've probably created some stories of your own. Those narratives are key threads in the fabric that make life in Louisiana so unique and so special.

To go along with our "enhanced" version of the truth, Louisiana is also home to some amazing communities that often must be seen to be believed. These communities embody a spirit of generations from long ago while keeping a watchful eye toward the future.

Still, the architecture and the ambiance of these communities lends itself as the perfect backdrop for telling stories of all kinds. Maybe that's why the Hallmark and Lifetime Holiday movie people keep showing up in Louisiana to film.

Introducing Louisiana's 9 Most "Storybook" Towns

The editors at World Atlas recently completed a series of storybook towns across the country, and they took the time to create a list of nine different towns in Louisiana that they considered to be worthy of such accolades.

The World Atlas article didn't list the towns in any specific ranked order, but of the nine towns on the list, four of them were in the portion of the state we call Acadiana. Naturally, the one town that makes every list of this kind, Natchitoches, was mentioned, as was St. Francisville.

Another city along the Mississippi River, Donaldsonville, earned a spot on the list, as did Louisiana's "beach paradise" Grand Isle. Madisonville was the other Louisiana community that was also featured in the World Atlas story.

The four Acadiana towns to earn accolades as The Most Storybook Towns in Louisiana included Abbeville, which the editors noted was home to the Giant Omelette Celebration. The article also mentions Magdalen Square, a personal favorite place of mine. The article calls Abbeville a community reminiscent of a French village transplanted on the prairies of Louisiana.

The second town mentioned in the World Atlas article was Breaux Bridge. The self-proclaimed Crawfish Capitol of the World is preparing for yet another Crawfish Festival, and the locals "can't wait fast enough".  Breaux Bridge was also lauded for its shopping, antiques, and, of course, the food.

Just down the road from Breaux Bridge was St Martin Parish's second entry on the list, St Martinville. The article by World Atlas made special mention of the ambience along the bayou in St Martinville. It called attention to the trees and the moss and the whole "Evangeline" vibe that the city exudes.

The fourth Acadiana community that earned a slot on the 9 Storybook Towns in Louisiana list was Opelousas. The article called special attention to the historic architecture of old Opelousas. It mentions the Venus House and the Orphan Train Museum specifically.  The article encourages visitors to get to know the "Hidden Capital of Louisiana".

What's even better about these four Acadiana towns and the other five as well is that they are within driving distance and would make for a great day trip. In these economic times where money is tight, this gives you something to do, something to see, and a chance to "get away" even if it's just for a few hours.  And since you might get hungry during your travels.
