Opelousas High Football to Retain State Championship, But Head Coach Still on Probation
According to multiple reports, the Opelousas High School football team will get to keep its 2023 state championship after reaching an agreement with the Louisiana High School Athletic Association.
A hearing was held on Monday, April 29th at the 27th District Court in Opelousas between the two parties.
According to this Facebook post, the law firm of Doran and Cawthorne represented the school.
Heach coach Jimmy Zachary, however, will remain on probation, according to the court ruling this morning.
As you may recall, back in February, the Opelousas Tigers were forced to forfeit all its wins in the 2023 season along with its Division II Non-Select State Championship after it was ruled they used an ineligible player.
Additionally, head coach Jimmy Zachary was to be suspended for one season from the football program.
This is a developing story that we will follow and update as further information becomes available.
