The coronavirus pandemic is making its way into Acadiana.

Yesterday saw the news of one person in New Iberia testing positive for the COVID-19 virus.

Also on Wednesday, in St. Landry Parish, a staff member at Park Vista Elementary has been asked to self-quarantine following a recent cruise trip.

A letter went out to parents yesterday from the St. Landry Parish School System:

SLPSS has made a decision to require one staff member from Park Vista Elementary to self-quarantine due to a recent cruise travel, which has occurred within the last fourteen days. The staff member is NOT displaying any symptoms of the COVID-19. The safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority and therefore we are taking these proactive measures. The classroom was disinfected and the staff member will not return until cleared by a physician once he/she has self-quarantined for the 14-day time span.

This is the only information we have at this time and when more details become available, we'll be sure to pass along.
