(KMDL-FM) What thought comes to mind when you hear the word "Jeep"? For a lot of us, a "jeep" was something we drove in those old Army movies we used to watch on Saturday afternoons. Nowadays, the person behind the wheel of a Jeep is just as likely to be a soccer mom as it is to be a Master Sergeant. Of course, it is possible that one person could be both of those; we don't discriminate here.

What we do like to do is keep you safe. And when a well-respected product such as Jeep is the subject of a safety recall, we want you to be aware of the specifics of that recall.

How Many Jeeps Are Affected by the Most Recent NHTSA Recall?

Right now, we know this recall that was issued on August 14 affects some 80,000 different Jeep vehicles. It is believed that thousands of these vehicles were sold in Louisiana.

And, not only were they sold in Louisiana, they are currently on the road in Louisiana since the recall involves some of the newest products in the Jeep line. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the recall is for Jeep Wranglers. The affected models are the 2024 and 2025 models of that vehicle.

The catalyst for the recall in this case is not a part failure or a manufacturing defect. It is most likely related to an issue that may have occurred during the construction of each vehicle.

The recall notice suggests the remote start antenna could have become pinched during assembly by the seat belt retractor bracket. This pinching could result in the inability of the pressure monitoring system to function and provide accurate information for the driver.

So, if you drive a Jeep Wrangler from 2024 or 2025 and you keep getting strange readings about your tire pressures but a physical inspection suggests your tires are just fine, your pressure monitor system could have been compromised.

What Do I Do If I Have A Recalled Jeep Wrangler?

The fix on this situation is relatively easy; it requires inspecting the seat belt bracket to see if the antenna cable is pinched. If it is a replacement can and will be made free of charge.

You should have already gotten a notice from Chrysler, which manufactured the vehicles. The company stated it would reach out to the owners affected by the recall. You can also contact Chrysler’s customer service at (800) 853-1403 or the NHTSA’s safety hotline at (888) 327-4236 to determine if they are affected by the recall.
