But that's exactly what happened: a single ticket matched all the numbers needed to lay claim to $1.8 billion.

I can't say that last night's win was a surprise. In our last article about the Powerball game, we told you the jackpot would either be won in Monday's drawing, which it wasn't. What Was the Powerball Jackpot Amount for December 24, 2025, Christmas Eve?

Last night's Powerball jackpot, technically $1.817 billion, was the second-largest Powerball jackpot won this year. The largest was the aforementioned split win in September. If the winning ticket holder chooses the lump sum or cash payout for their win on Wednesday, the amount would be $834.9 million.

If they choose the annuitized version of the jackpot, the winner will receive an immediate one-time payment and the 29 additional payments. Each additional payment will be made annually and will include a 5% increase each year.

Our sources at Powerball and the Louisiana Lottery confirmed that a single ticket sold in Arkansas matched all the numbers needed to earn the $1.817 billion jackpot prize. Louisiana had its share of winners as well. In fact, we are working on confirming the point of purchase for a $50,000 winner sold in Louisiana for last night's game.

In addition to the $50,000 winner, 94 Louisiana-sold tickets earned a $100 prize, and 34 others that also matched either four white balls or three white balls and the Powerball earned a prize of $200 because they opted for the game's Power Play option.

With the jackpot win, Powerball will reset to its beginning jackpot amount of $20 million for the next drawing on Saturday. Lost in the shuffle of Wednesday's Powerball excitement were the drawings for Lotto and Easy 5. Neither game returned a jackpot winner on Christmas Eve. The Easy 5 jackpot will now rise to $70,000, and Lotto will rise to an estimated $725,000. The next drawing in both of those games will come on Saturday night.

Thursday is a night off for the big lottery games. The next chance to become a multi-millionaire via the Louisiana Lottery will happen with Mega Millions on Friday. The jackpot in that multi-state Lottery game is estimated to be $125 million.
