New Orleans Saints sack leader Junior Galette suffered a pectoral injury and is currently exploring potential surgery options, this according to a report Mike Garafolo and Ross Jones of Fox Sports.

Galette was not in attendance at today's OTAs (organized team activities) on Airline Drive in Metarie, and no reason was given by the Saints as to the cause of his absence.

Pectoral injuries vary, and without details of the exact nature of the injury, it's hard to speculate on if Galette will definitely need surgery, though the report of him exploring his options for a potential surgery is somewhat alarming.

A surgery on a pectural injury typically keeps a player off the football field for 5 or 6 months.

Galette, 27, signed a four-year, $41.5 million deal early last season, one year after accumulating 12 sacks in 2013. In 2014, he finished with 10 to lead the team, but his play (as was the case for the majority of the Saints defense) took a dip.

Galette was arrested for domestic violence in January shortly after the Saints season ended (see mug shot here). The criminal charges were later dropped.
