Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge To Temporarily Close in September for Alligator Harvest
If you plan to visit Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge in a couple of weeks, you should be aware of a few dates where that won't be possible.
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries will be closing the refuge to the public on Sept. 5 through Sept. 7 to hold its annual nuisance alligator harvest. Each of those days the refuge will be closed to the public until noon.
After noon, the public will be allowed to enter the refuge and use recreational areas until sunset each day. The delayed openings will be in effect each day or until alligator trappers have used all their tags for this controlled harvest.
Rockefeller spans some 26 miles of coastal Louisiana in Cameron and Vermilion parishes and offers a variety of recreational fishing opportunities for shrimp, redfish, speckled trout, black drum, largemouth bass and other species.
Over 100,000 visitors utilize the refuge annually. For more information on Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge, go to rwrefuge.com.
