New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees did not participate in Saturday morning's scrimmage at Saints training camp due to a strained left oblique.

Brees suffered the strain during Friday's morning practice.

Saints head coach Sean Payton didn't seem to be overly concerned with the injury.

"He's got a strained left oblique. He's day to day," explained Payton. "We'll monitor him."

Backups Ryan Griffin and Luke McCown got plenty of reps at the scrimmage, but the star of the show was rookie wide receiver Brandin Cooks. Multiple reports from those in attendance raved about Cooks body control, speed, hands, and ability to leap up and grab the football.

The team is off tomorrow before returning to practice Monday morning.
