Saints Sign WRs Michael Floyd & Brandon Tate

New Orleans Saints training camp took a break from practice Tuesday, as players got a rest day.

It wasn't a rest day for the front office, as the club signed two veteran wide receivers today in Michael Floyd and Brandon Tate, according to multiple reports and first reported by Nick Underhill of The Advocate.

The signings come in the aftermath of former LSU and Breaux Bridge standout Travin Dural breaking his arm earlier this week in camp. Dural was on the practice squad in New Orleans last season, and was off to a good start in camp before the setback.

Floyd, 28, had a standout collegiate career at Notre Dame before being drafted in the first round by the Arizona Cardinals in 2012.

After 4+ seasons in Arizona, he was waived by the Cardinals in 2016 following an arrest for extreme DUI. New England claimed him off waivers in the final weeks of that season, and Floyd went on to win a Super Bowl with the Patriots a month and a half later, though he was a healthy inactive for the game.

In 2017, he signed with the Minnesota Vikings, but was unproductive, finishing the year with only 10 catches for 78 yards.

For his career, Floyd has 256 receptions for 3,859 yards and 24 touchdowns.

Tate, 30, has found success in his 9 year career on special teams.

A former 3rd round pick out of North Carolina, Tate has 247 kick returns and 200 punt returns for his career.

The Saints have tried out several players at both punt and kick returner during camp, but no one has taken a step toward procuring the role.

Head coach Sean Payton likened the return game to the reality show "The Bachelor", saying they had 12 contestants, all with roses, but if they didn't like any of them they'd bring in more.

It appears Tate is "more".
