Emergency officials in East Baton Rouge Parish continue to search for a man who went missing while swimming in the Amite River on Wednesday afternoon (July 19).

Authorities received a call around 5:30 pm that a man who was swimming with friends went under while swimming near the Frenchtown Conservation Area.

Central Police Chief Roger Corcoran told a Baton Rouge television station that the man jumped from the railroad trestle and did not come back up.

Multiple dive teams were summoned to search for the man. Those teams worked in the area for three hours, from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm.

Unfortunately, the dive teams did not find the man and they will resume searching this morning (July 20).
