Severe Weather Threat Possible In Acadiana Today
Forecasters with the Storm Prediction Center have placed much of central and south Louisiana at risk for severe weather today. The forecast calls for a marginal threat of severe weather affecting cities such as Lake Charles, Lafayette, Baton Rouge, and Alexandria over the next 24 hours.
This threat of severe weather is part of a larger storm system that could bring strong storms and even tornadoes to parts of Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia later today.
As far as the Acadiana area is concerned forecasters with the National Weather Service have rain chances listed at only 40%. With the most likely time frame for rain and thunderstorms to occur between 2 pm and 8 pm.
The Futurecast Forecast Models from KATC TV seem to echo those sentiments. As that forecast model puts the best chance of showers in the area during a similar time frame.
Once this weather system passes through the area later this evening skies are expected to clear. Then the rest of the work week should feature "chamber of commerce weather" with mostly sunny skies and lower humidities.
