Southside Bakery in Lafayette Closes After 65 Years in Business
A legendary Lafayette business has closed its doors. Southside Bakery, most recently located on West Congress, has officially closed after serving the community since 1953.
The Guilbeaux family cites retirement as the reason and posted the following on their Facebook page.
The store will not remain vacant for long though. Sonny's Quick Stop will be moving into the space in the next three to four weeks.
According to Developing Lafayette, Sonny's will be a complete convenient store which will serve up BBQ along with deli items like hamburgers, poboys, and baked goods. There's even word that Sonny's will continue to serve some of the popular bakery items once sold at Southside Bakery.
