(KMDL-FM) The Food and Drug Administration has announced a nationwide recall of multi-symptom treatment skin cream over concerns that the product contains Staphylococcus aureus. Most of us know that bacterium as staph. It's a bacterium that is found on the skin or in the noses of about one-third of the population.

The Centers for Disease Control says that any staph infection can be dangerous and become life-threatening. This is why the FDA and Wisconsin-based Pharmacal have announced the recall of a lot of MG217 Multi-symptom Treatment Cream & Skin Protectant Eczema Cream sold in 6-oz. tubes.

What Persons are at Risk From Using the Recalled Skin Cream?

Persons who are at the most risk from the use of the recalled skin cream are those with weakened immune systems. Also, if you have compromised skin. By compromised skin, we mean open wounds, burns, scrapes, or skin disorders. Those who fall into that category would be most at risk of a more serious infection.

The parent company, Pharmacal, has not received any complaints, reports, adverse reactions, or severe injuries because of the recalled product. As we mentioned, the product is labeled as MG217 Multi-symptom Treatment Cream & Skin Protectant Eczema Cream, sold in 6-oz. tubes. Here is what that packaging looks like.

The affected MG217 Multi-symptom Treatment Cream & Skin Protectant Eczema Cream is lot 1024088 with an expiration date of November 2026. The product can be identified by locating the lot number in the crimped end of the tube. MG217 Multi-symptom Treatment Cream & Skin Protectant Eczema Cream was distributed Nationwide.
