Honesty is always the best policy, but what about when there's $1,000,000 on the line?

Back in March, Lea Rose Fiega bought a $30 "Diamond Millions" scratch-off ticket at the Lucky Stop, a convenience store she frequents because it's close to where she works.

She was on her lunch break and in a hurry so she wouldn't be late returning to work according to WBRZ.com. Fiega scratched her ticket and it appeared to her she hadn't won anything, so she handed it to the store clerk to throw away.

The owners of the Lucky Stop in Southwick, Mass say the ticket stayed behind the counter along with other discarded tickets for a week and a half until they realized Fiega's ticket wasn't fully scratched.

The store owner's son Abhi Shah tells WWLP-TV he "scratched the number and it was $1 million underneath the ticket."

Fiega is a regular, so the family knew immediately who had bought the ticket.

Shah then went to visit Fiega where she works to ask her to come to the store.

From WBRZ.com -

"'He came to my office and said ‘my Mom and Dad would like to see you,' she said. 'I said ‘I'm working,' and he said ‘no you have to come over.' So I went over there and that's when they told me. I was in total disbelief. I cried, I hugged them.'"

The Shah family could have easily sighed the $1M ticket and claimed it for their own, but they did the right thing. They did the right thing when no one was looking.

The store gets $10,000 from the lottery commission for selling the winning tickets, and Fiega says she gave them an additional reward for their honesty.
