Interactive Map: Here’s Where Surveillance Cameras Watch Acadiana Residents
(KMDL-FM) For those of you who woke up this morning thinking you were a "private citizen," you need to get that thought out of your head. While your thoughts might remain private, your actions, your movements, your interactions, in many cases, are being captured on video.
We thought you might want to know where at least some of those cameras are located around Acadiana and Louisiana. But before we head to the map, you should know that Flock isn't the only surveillance camera that has been deployed to watch you.
You've perhaps heard of Flock cameras, but that surveillance company isn't the only "eye in the sky" that's keeping up with you and your movements during the day and night. Flock Safety currently has agreements in place with more than 5,000 law enforcement agencies across some 6,000 communities.
Flock Isn't the Only Camera You Should Be Aware Of - There Are Many Others
Many citizens and many communities are now pushing back against Flock and the security cameras they have posted around various communities, but Flock isn't the only game in town. In fact, companies such as Motorola Solutions, Genetec, Axion, Axis Communications, and Neology also provide cameras that can read your license plate just as well as a Flock camera can.

If you really read between the lines, you can see that most people don't have an issue with the cameras or the surveillance; their issue is with who the data is shared with. Flock and Motorola have nationwide law enforcement sharing. Axon does not.
In response to the distribution and wide use of Flock cameras, an organization, DeFlock, has been created. That group maintains a crowdsourced map of ALPR locations. If you're not sure what ALPR means, it stands for Automated License Plate Reader.
If you'd like to see where ALPR cameras have been positioned where you live, where you work, where you drive, and where you shop, you can fine-tune that down to your local ZIP code and then zoom in from there.

This link will take you to the DeFlock Interactive Map. Once you're there, you will need to input the location or locations you'd like to peruse. My first thought upon seeing the display was, "Dang, they really have a lot of cameras installed".

One more thing about this map and the camera locations that are featured on it. We are taking DeFlock at their word. We have not independently verified the locations depicted, so just know that before you start to raise a total stink.
And if you want to go back to a simpler time when you felt free to move about the country, let's head back in time about 20-years. We still had cameras; they just weren't pointed directly into your personal business back then.
