The grocery store chain operates nearly 2,500 stores across the nation including 17 in Louisiana and they've announced expansion plans for 2025.

Swensen discovered that he needs $2500 a month to live, and he only gets $1,100 from Social Security, so he's working at Winn-Dixie, "pushing carts in triple-digit heat," just get by and make ends meet. Despite the task at hand, Swensen said he has the "kindest smile" and "the greatest attitude" that was not diminished by the mundane task or the sweltering Louisiana heat.

Those close to the decision say road construction in the Lafayette area played a major part in the decision to shutter the store.

Eight Winn-Dixie locations in south Louisiana will no longer be Winn-Dixie stores.

Shoppers Value Foods is set to be the occupant at that location on the corner of Ambassador and Dulles.

LeDana Williams, spokesperson for Southeastern Grocers says they are closing the Winn Dixie on Ambassador Caffery.

I am a firm believer that when you bring communities together for a special cause, big things can happen. This will no doubt be the case for Winn-Dixie's around the United States this Independence Day.
