(KMDL-FM) When it comes to large stores with large selections, Target is one of our favorites here in South Louisiana. So I am sure you're wondering why Target would want to mess with a formula that works by making a major change that shoppers all across Louisiana will notice immediately.

So, what is it that you notice when you first walk into a Target store? Is it the employees with their red shirts and khaki pants? Is it the bullseye logo? Or perhaps what seems to catch your eye is the bright red Target shopping cart. If you guessed shopping cart, you're right, that's where Target is making a major change for shoppers over the next few years.

Target has announced a major overhaul to its bright red buggies, and we think you will appreciate the changes. The first thing you will notice is that the new carts are all plastic. This means they are lighter and, based on my experience with all-plastic carts, they are easier to maneuver than some of the older metal buggies.

What's Different About Target's New Shopping Carts?

The carts will also be larger, which means you will have more room to place your purchases, and I am sure the folks at Target are hoping it will mean you might buy more. One other amenity that Target shoppers seemed to love, where some of the test marketing took place, was the addition of a larger cup holder.

I was surprised to learn that Target has over half a million shopping carts in its arsenal of buggies. And since the cart is one of the most "hands-on" experiences you can have in the store, it's no wonder they wanted to get the carts just right for shoppers.

Target's New Shopping Carts Offer An Added Benefit to Parents

Oh, and parents with small children, you'll be pleased to learn that the new Target shopping carts will feature a larger and more secure child seat. This should add to your peace of mind when you have to do the shopping and bring the little ones along.

The new shopping cart rollout has been officially announced, and many locations have already gotten the updated buggies. We are unable to confirm if any Louisiana stores have the new buggies or when they will be getting them, but according to a spokesperson from Target, the rollout should be completed nationwide over the next few months.
