The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns baseball team was looking to continue their winning ways when they went on the road to face off against the UTA Mavericks in conference play. The Cajuns had 16 hits but a couple costly errors and free bases cost them the game. The Mavericks defeated the Cajuns 9-8 as the Cajuns move to 20-21 overall and 8-8 in conference play.

The Cajuns started the scoring early as they scored 2 in the top of the 1st inning. They got the first run on an RBI single from Todd Lott, who had a big night and another as the Mavericks were turning a double play. The Cajuns would add their 3rd run of the game in the top of the 2nd off of an RBI groundout.

The Mavericks would get in on the scoring in the bottom of the 2nd when they would get a 2-RBI single with the bases loaded and another RBI single to tie up the game. The Mavericks would take their first lead of the game in the bottom of the 4th on an RBI double. The Mavericks would have a short lead as Lott hit a 2-run home run to give the Cajuns a 5-4 lead in the top of the 5th.

The Cajuns added to their lead in the top of the 8th scoring 3 runs. The Cajuns got their runs on a sacrifice bunt, and 2 RBI singles to give them an 8-4 lead. Gunner Leger struggled a bit in the 8th inning as he allowed some free base runners. Leger walked in a run and hit a batter both with the bases loaded allowing the Mavericks to score 2 runs. The Mavericks added another run in the 8th inning to give the Cajuns an 8-7 lead going into the 9th inning.

The Cajuns had a chance to add to their lead in the top of the 9th inning with runners at the corners and 1 out but they failed to get any runs across. The Mavericks had runners at the corners with 1 out in the bottom of the 9th when the Cajuns had a great chance to end the game with a double play but a fielding error allowed a run to score to tie the game. The Mavericks finished off the comeback with an RBI single giving them the 9-8 win over the Cajuns.

The Cajuns will look to even the series tomorrow night when they play at 6:30 pm. The Cajuns will finish the series on Saturday afternoon before traveling to play Southern Miss for the last midweek game of the year.
