I very seldomly get shaken up or upset when a TV show goes off the air. Mostly on account of re-runs in perpetuity so I'll never really have to say goodbye to that show.

But I am really sad over the news that E! is cancelling "The Soup" after 22 seasons. It's a topical, current events type satirical show, so syndication re-runs aren't really a possibility.

And with its current host, Joel McHale, I think the show has never been more witty, cleverly written and perfectly executed on a week-by-week basis.

Joel has been the host of the show since 2004 when the network brought it back as a revamped version of "Talk Soup", which aired on E! from 1991 to 2002. There was a two-year break between the two shows.

Joel had signed a new deal last year to extend the show through 2016, but apparently, that plan has been cut short.

The original "Talk Soup" had four hosts: Greg Kinnear, John Henson, Hal Sparks and Aisha Tyler.

"The Soup" will continue to run on Fridays at 9pm until the series finale on December 18th.

Farewell old friend.
