This Day In Country Music – Kathy Mattea Releases Her Debut Album

It just wouldn't be a Classic Country Saturday Night on 97.3 The Dawg if we didn't hear at least one tune from Kathy Mattea. Kathy has been a staple on the country charts since 1984 and it was on this date in 1984 her self titled debut album was released.

While the disc did not have the huge monster hits that Mattea would later record it served as a stepping stone to bigger and better things. Kathy's use of her West Virginia bluegrass roots combined with a smooth vocal and just a hint of Celtic influence have not only created number one songs. Kathy Mattea's songs have almost become iconic in some circles.
