The Lafayette Consolidated Government Building at the the corner of University Avenue and St. Landry Street is a little bit worse for wear after taking damage from an 18-wheeler Tuesday night.

The driver of the big rig was trying to leave the Circle K gas station across the street and backed into the building without realizing it.

Government officials told KATC-TV 3 they've pulled down the plexi glass panels that were in danger of falling because of the crash, but officials are still not sure of the full extent of the damage. A structural engineer is expected to asses the building.

The crash happened about 11 p.m. Tuesday, and the truck driver was cited.
